Where to take family beach photos in Destin and Miramar Beach
For most families we pick a quiet public access in Miramar Beach or a spot in Henderson Beach State Park in Destin. Both have white sand, room to spread out, and dunes behind you. If you're staying in a condo, your own beach is often fine. The key is less foot traffic at the time you shoot, not the exact beach.
We have toddlers. Where should we go?
Pick an access close to parking, book an earlier slot so it is not past bedtime and bring a snack for the walk. Summer sunset is around 8 PM, so daytime or early evening may work better.
We're a group of 10 or more.
Henderson Beach State Park or a wide Miramar Beach access gives room to line everyone up without strangers in the background. Extended family sessions are $750 for 7 to 12 people, plus $25 per person over 12.
We want dunes, not condos.
Henderson Beach State Park has dunes and boardwalks without towers right behind you. A state park entry fee applies. For 30A dunes, read our 30A beach guide.
30A beach guideCan we do photos at our rental?
Usually yes if it is your rental's beach. Condo beaches can be busy at sunset in summer, so we may walk a little way down to find a gap.
What about James Lee Park?
On Old Highway 98 in Destin, with public parking, restrooms and dune walkovers. Access is easy, but summer evenings get busy.
How do you handle wind, heat and storms?
Summer afternoon storms usually clear by evening. We decide 2 hours before and you get one free weather reschedule. Morning sessions are cooler and calmer in July and August.
